Background

To report early outcomes after SADI-S procedure

Methods

SADI-S has been approved as primary bariatric procedure since 2019. There is increased acceptance of the procedure since. However, majority of the outcomes data comes from few centers in USA, with uncertainty of reproducibility. We report early outcome data from a community practice in California.

Results

A total of 63 primary SADI-S procedures have been performed between 08/2019-12/2021 with a minimum follow up of 24 months. Mean age was 43 yrs., F:M Distribution 53:10, with mean BMI of 54 (Range 36.8 to 70.7). All but seven of the procedures were performed robot assisted, with average duration of 132 mins (range 86-182). Average LOS (length of stay) was 1.66 days (range 1-8). Mortality rate was 3.1 % (one death after POD#4 of unknown cause, other after 6 weeks post op, of unknown cause). Readmission rate 4.7% (3/63), No leak, major bleeding or reoperations within 30 days. Revision rate was 4.7% (3/63), one each for biliary gastritis, additional weight loss and malnutrition.Mean TBW% (total body weight loss) at 6, 12 and 24+-1 months were 30.5 (n=5417-46.8), 37 (n=53,18.2-53) and 40 (n=45, 16.8-58.3) respectively. No nutritional deficiencies were observed in a 3rd of patients at 12 months and a fourth of them at 24 months.

Conclusions

SADI-S offers excellent total body weight loss at short term follow up with acceptable nutritional deficiencies. However, Mortality in this group was higher.
