Biography
Colonel (retired) Matthew J. Martin, MD, FACS is the Director of Acute Care Surgery Research and Chief of Emergency General Surgery for the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, LA County + USC Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. He is also an attending Bariatric Surgeon and holds a dual appointment with the Division of General and Upper GI Surgery. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2018 where he had served in a variety of roles at Madigan Army Medical Center and representing the U.S. Army, including the Army Chair for the ACS Committee on Trauma. He completed 5 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan where he served in a variety of leadership roles ranging from Commander of a Forward Surgical Team to the Chief Medical Officer responsible for all surgical teams in Iraq and Syria.
