Biography
Cassie Peters is a Quality Resource Implementation Specialist at the American College of Surgeons. She received her BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from The University of Illinois at Chicago, majoring in Cognitive Psychology with a minor in Sociology with an emphasis on Gender and Women’s Studies. Cassie joined ACS in March 2021 as the MBSAQIP Program Assistant, then served as an MBSAQIP Program Coordinator, and finally the Program Specialist before transitioning to the Quality Resource Team in March 2024. In her past role as Program Specialist, Cassie was responsible for the planning, execution, communication, issue identification, and delivery of MBSAQIP projects. She worked with internal and external stakeholders to manage the life cycle of each project. She also oversaw the MBSAQIP Surgeon Reviewer program and was the main point of contact for internal questions regarding interpretation of the MBSAQIP Standards and adjudication process. She acted as a liaison between program leadership, program staff, committees, and reviewers to relay any changes in policy, accreditation standards, practices, and to address issues and communicate opportunities for further program development and improvement as it relates to the accreditation process. She served as the MBSAQIP staff liaison for all MBSAQIP committees and subcommittees, including CMBS, Executive Review, Standards & Verification, and Data Quality.Previous to her work at ACS, Cassie was a research assistant at the UIC Memory Lab under Dr. Karl Szpunar helping to research the psychology of future thinking. Additionally, she has executive experience as the former Vice President and Corporate Secretary of a small packaging machinery firm. In addition to her vast work experience, Cassie previously served as a volunteer Coach and Mentor for One Million Degrees, where she supports community college students with diverse backgrounds, coaching them through challenges, and celebrating their successes. Cassie is an alumni member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Psi Beta National Honor Society, and Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology. She currently resides in Chicago with her husband Brian, their son Bryce, and their dog Kaylee.
