Biography
Dr. Scott is a Clinical Professor of Surgery with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Director for the bariatric surgical program of Prisma Health. He also serves as the Chief for the Division of Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery for the Prisma Health Department of Surgery, the Program Director for Prisma Health Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) fellowship program, and the medical director for Nutrition Solutions. Dr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Baylor University and a Master of Science in molecular cell sciences from the University of Memphis. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and then completed his residency in General Surgery at Greenville Health System. He went on to complete a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Cincinnati. He has previously served as the President of the Bariatric Society of the Carolinas, The Executive Council of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Chairman of the ASMBS Program Committee, Chairman of the ASMBS Access to Care Committee, and a member of the South Carolina Medical Association Childhood Obesity Taskforce. He is currently the representative for the ASMBS in the American Medical Association House of Delegates and sits on the Board of Directors for the Obesity PAC and the Obesity Action Coalition. He also serves on the Question Writing board for the Focus Practice Designation Committee for the American Board of Surgery. He is an editorial board member for Surgery for Obesity and Related Disease. Dr. Scott is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, a Diplomate for the American Board of Obesity Medicine and remains active in the American College of Surgeons (ACS), SAGES, and the Southern Surgical Association. He is a fellow of the ACS and the ASMBS.
