Biography

Chelsea A. Taylor is a fourth-year Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine graduate student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with current research and clinical training at Johns Hopkins University and the Eating Recovery Center. Her current research interests include studying disordered eating, weight outcomes for patients undergoing bariatric surgery, pain and trauma, and experiences of sizeism. Specifically, she is studying the impact of chronic pain on weight loss of patients undergoing bariatric surgery; the impacts of systemic and community stress and psychosocial factors (neighborhood, discrimination) that may contribute to chronic pain in individuals with clinical and subclinical trauma; experiences of adverse life events and the development of muscle dysmorphic behaviors in men; factors that impact individuals’ relationships with their bodies; and sociocultural and internalized influences of perceived body image disturbance, shame, and disgust in relation to anti-fat prejudice.Chelsea’s clinical training encompasses a history of providing neuropsychological assessment to patients with neurodegenerative and movement disorders, chronic pain, long COVID, and cancers. I also treated patients with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES), somatic disorders, and functional neurological disorders at Johns Hopkins University, Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology. During her graduate training, she has also provided individual psychotherapy for patients with eating disorders, psychogenic nonepileptic seizures, functional neurological disorders, suicidal ideation, mood disorders, and emotional dysregulation.
