Biography
Shaina Eckhouse, MD, joined the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Duke University as an expert in bariatric surgery and obesity medicine with a focus of building comprehensive obesity care for the health system in January 2024. She earned a medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, completed a general surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and completed a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at Duke University. Dr. Eckhouse is involved in program development, patient safety and quality improvement for the Bariatric Surgery Program. Her research focuses on patient reported outcomes following bariatric surgery. She also has a keen interest in hospital administration in the OR focusing on improving teamwork, the OR environment, and overall culture.
